The Jon Barry Effect
Not including tonight’s games, here are the new top 10 rated players (with my standardized roto rankings in parentheses). This list is starting to look a lot more like one would expect than the list after the first game of the year.
1 Chris Duhon (6.8)
2 Steve Nash (6.5)
3 Dwyane Wade (5.8)
4 Ray Allen (5.6)
5 Marcus Camby (5.3)
6 Jon Barry (5.3)
7 Richard Jefferson (4.6)
8 Kevin Garnett (4.5)
9
10 Dirk Nowitzki (3.9)
Duhon is still living off his first triple double. Nash, Wade, and Allen have put together two good games. Camby has had a few impressive games - hopefully he can stay healthy over the majority of the season... McGrady is out three weeks and Jon Barry has been taking advantage of extra playing time (that would make it time to pick him up). Richard Jefferson is off to a great start. And Garnett, Bryant, and Dirk... they'll be in the top 10 for the rest of the season. Deal with that!

What method are you using to calculate player value? Is it some variation of tot-avg/stdev or are you running a simulation to generate fantasy points?

It's basically a player's weighted z-scores summed across each of the main roto categories (based upon per game stats). Crude, but good enough for someone who likes to calculate scores on a nearly daily basis. I never had thought about a simulation until I saw what you had done. Very interesting.
